At the Palermo meeting on 21 September of the High Level Group appointed by the European Commission to examine the question of plantation rights, the President of the AREV, Jean-Paul Bachy was invited to identify the issues in the study conducted by Professor Montaigne, whose conclusions were officially presented.
Attached, you will find the text of Jean-Paul Bachy’s speech. The representatives of the Commission steering the High Level Group obviously chose to ignore the positions of the AREV, which is opposed, like the majority of the European Parliament and the Committee of the Regions, to deregulation of planting rights. However, the Montaigne study clearly identifies considerable risks.
It is time to mobilise. The AREV invites all the Presidents of wine-growing Regions, all the associations and all the representatives of the affected occupations, to meet in Brussels* on 7 November. All the actions designed to protect the interests of the regions in question will be examined on that day.
